When (Physical + Numerical = Testable System): NEES-Enabled Advances in Hybrid Simulation

چکیده
Impetus for Hybrid Simulation The desire of stakeholders to consider potential consequences as well as safety when judging alternative seismic design or retrofit plans for their structures has driven the development of performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE). Use of PBEE, in turn, depends upon the ability to accurately assess the seismic performance of alternative designs. Physically testing the performance of entire buildings or infrastructure systems in laboratories can be impractical due to the scale or costs involved. However, laboratories can generally accommodate testing of critical or previously untested components of structures, while recent advances in modeling and high-performance computing have made it increasingly feasible to obtain high fidelity responses of a structure’s noncritical or well understood components through numerical simulation.

Hybrid Simulation of a Frame Equipped with MR Damper by Utilizing Least Square Support Vector Machine
In hybrid simulation, the structure is divided into numerical and physical substructures to achieve more accurate responses in comparison to a full computational analysis. As a consequence of the lack of test facilities and actuators, and the budget limitation, only a few substructures can be modeled experimentally, whereas the others have to be modeled numerically. In this paper, a new hybrid ...
متن کاملFast Hybrid Simulation with Geographically Distributed Substructures
A distributed control strategy is presented that supports the implementation of hybrid (pseudodynamic) testing with geographically distributed substructures. The objectives of the distributed controller are: (1) to provide a scalable framework for multiple substructure testing at distributed sites and (2) to improve the reliability of the test results by minimizing strain-rate and force relaxat...
متن کاملCompensation of Actuator Delay and Dynamics for Real-time Hybrid Structural Simulation
Compensation of delay and dynamic response of servo-hydraulic actuator is critical to the stability and accuracy of hybrid experimental and numerical simulations of the seismic response of structures. In this study, current procedures for compensation of actuator delay are examined and improved procedures are proposed. The proposed procedures need little or no a priori information about the beh...

Particulate separation has many applications in medicine, biology and industry. In this research, the separation of polystyrene particles with a diameter of 10, 20 and 30 μm in the fluid flow of a microchannel is investigated. The microchannel consists of a spiral region and a straight region under the influence of acoustic waves. In the spiral region, the particles under hydrodynamic effects u...
